"Truly our first and only vacation was in Mendocino. SIX years later and a four year old and we've never been back. I would love to return to those cliffs and ocean. At "Gualala Point View" house here's what you'll see: White water views with waves breaking on Gualala Point. Flights of Pelicans and Seagulls gliding by at eye level. "I have always wanted to surprise my husband with something that may just blow his mind. In our 7 1/2 years together I have never been able to. Even when it comes to christmas and birthday gifts. To plan a trip would never be financially possible especially without him knowing. Mendocino is no doubt his favorite place on earth. He grew up in San Francisco near the ocean and I know its where he feels the most whole. After spending time in Iraq I know that when he looks out at the ocean he sees more then just the natural beauty, he sees the country he loves so much, he sees home, and in Mendocino he feels freedom. I can see his body relax as he takes in deep breaths of the fresh crisp ocean air. If I could surprise him with anything in the world it would be a trip to Mendocino. If I could surprise him To give him the gift of adventure and beauty in the place he loves the most. What would be a better surprise then that!"

"I first visited Mendocino 30 years ago. It was love at first sight. I went back often even though l was living in San Francisco and it was a three hour drive---each way! A few years later, I met a lady who became my wife. (That was also love at first sight.) It was nice having company for the ride and to share the joy of Mendocino. We both love everything about it---the charm, art, ocean, views, hiking and food. We would sometimes stay overnight and always at the same bed and breakfast inn. We even spent our honeymoon there.

We eventually had three daughters and moved to Santa Rosa. That cut the drive down to two hours. We would bring the kids with us and they really enjoyed it, too. We would have picnic lunches in the back of the Visitor's Center and pretend it was our house. Sometimes, we would go for the day without the kids. We'd drop them off at school at 8:00 and pick them up from their friends’ houses at 5:00. We'd feel totally rejuvenated. We then got dogs and would bring them with us. They loved playing in the water and going for hikes.

Some years ago, I visited an artist (David Gregory) as part of ArtTrails. He had several beautiful paintings of Mendocino. I told him about the above and we shared stories of our love for Mendocino. He asked where my wife and I stayed. I told him the Agate Cove Inn. He asked me to come in the back where he had his studio. He showed me a beautiful painting he had just finished of that inn. He said that he was planning on keeping it. But after hearing my story, he changed his mind. I am happy to say that painting is now hanging in our bedroom. (Photo attached) If we lived in Mendocino, I'm not sure we could appreciate it as much as we do. But with this little bit of Mendocino here where we wake every morning, we can always look forward to our next visit."

"We just celebrated our 25th Anniversary at the Headland's Inn.I had waited 34 years to visit, and it was everything I had hoped for and more. As we turned into the Village from Hwy 1, the skies opened and torrents of rain came down. It felt like the Heavens opened up to announce our arrival. During our marriage we have done a lot of traveling, but never have I felt so relaxed and happy. There is a magic there that shows in the faces of all the residents and we were truly welcomed by all. Maybe the magic comes from the beautiful surroundings, or perhaps the quiet lifestyle, but it is in a world by itself. We spent three glorious days and can't wait to go back to learn some more about the history and people. A trip to be remembered and cherished always."

"We were married in Mendocino on November 1, 2003 at the Presbyterian Church. We rented the entire facility at the Headlands Inn for us and our guests. Our wedding dinner was at the McCullum House. We return to Mendocino to celebrate our anniversary each year. This year, we sat on the steps of 'our' church and renewed our vows to one another while the ocean listened and smiled. We were told that people who are married in Mendocino have life long marriages. Each time we visit, I try to capture its essence by taking photographs. Those images are displayed in our home in the Bay Area and remind us that each year we get to return to the magical place we wish we could call home."

"I have always loved art, since I was young, I drew, painted and then in my adult life, I fell in love with photography. Mendocino is a photographer's dream! With the ocean crashing it's waves along the coast, the lighthouses, the peaceful, warm and colorful apple farms and vineyards, along with the tall, sweeping, cypress trees and the redwoods, it's just the perfect place to take pictures! Not only is Mendocino my favorite place to be but it's my favorite place to photograph. My husband and I got to check out a few galleries upon our last visit and love that Mendo is so full of art and creativity! We love everything about Mendocino, my husband and I dream of moving there one day. We love this place so much, it's hard to leave every time. We spent our honeymoon and wedding anniversary there and hope to go every year to celebrate our marriage! When we aren't in Mendo, we are dreaming of being there! My husband even sleeps in his Point Cabrillo beanie that he bought upon our last visit and it's also what he refers to as his 'thinking cap' that he swears is helping him get through his Master's degree! Dreaming about Mendo helps relieve his tensions with school and going to Mendo is our treat to ourselves after every semester! We hope to be back very soon! Thank you Mendo, we love you!"

"My fiance and I met through a non-profit organization that I signed up for in August 2010. The program linked you up randomly with a soldier to support (by sending packages and e-mails). Little did I know I would be given my future husband through this program! At the beginning of the program we e-mailed back and forth getting to know each other and quickly became friends. I soon found myself staying in on my Friday nights skyping with a guy all the way in Afghanistan and knew something was right about this. After 6 months of talking, we finally admitted that we liked each other more than friends. We decided to meet as soon as he got back from deployment. After a painful wait of 6 months, we've been in a relationship ever since! He just proposed on 11.17.12 He has been stationed at Fort Campbell and I have been in California so the distance has unfortunately continued. However the end of many cross country flights is near as we will be getting married in 2013 and will be moving in together after that. I am from Grass Valley, CA and it would be an honor to have my wedding in Mendocino where my parents celebrate their anniversary and to continue the family tradition of romantic getaways to beautiful Mendocino."

"I am actually the mother of the bride entering my daughter and her boyfriend. They have been together for 3 years and have both been out of college for the past 5 months trying to find jobs. it has been very disappointing for them. Either they are over qualified or under experienced. Her boyfriend has been saving $ for the last year towards a ring. He tells her if he had the $$ he would have asked her to marry him long ago. They are very responsible and don't want any more debt. They have actually planned a wedding on a beach somewhere but until they get jobs all plans are on hold. The two of them are a couple whom you would picture being married 75 years and still be in love. My future son in Law is the kindest person I could ask for my daughter. Winning would help them get their start in life with a little luck. Which is something we got all use.

"My wife and I got married two years ago in December. After getting married, we wanted to get away from the snow and take off for the holidays! We saw pictures of Mendocino and knew that's where we wanted to be. So, off we went! We stayed Christmas Eve through New Years Day. It was the best honeymoon we could have ever asked for!

We had the most amazing room with an ocean view. After checking in, we decided to get a Christmas Eve dinner. The restaurant was so charming with a fireplace, lit with Christmas lights and there were live Christmas songs being played. We were so overjoyed on how very special it felt, that we were moved to tears. It couldn't have been more perfect.

We also went on a whale watching boat tour. We got to see a Grey Whale surface his head and looked right at us, as if he was saying hello. We also visited the wonderful, Point Cabrillo and loved the walk up to the lighthouse, sometimes seeing deer walking among the fields.

Finally, we attended the New Year's Eve party at the Greenwood Pier Cafe! There was a band playing and it was all-you-can-eat Cajun food night! We had such an amazing time, the band announced our new marriage and everyone did a toast. That made it really special! We danced the night away and knew we would always remember the laughs and memories from that evening.

Thank you Mendocino, for giving us those warm, sunny days during our December honeymoon and for all of the wonderful memories! We miss you very much and hope to see you again soon! "

"Where else can you go whale watching, fishing, canoeing, abalone diving or just stare in amazement at the coastal bluffs that seem to go on forever, while holding hands with the love of your life all in one place? Nowhere else but Mendocino County!!! That is how our love story began. Our first vacation as a couple was spent in Mendocino. I can still remember on that trip we spent our days visiting unique shops, learning about Mendocino's rich history while visiting the museum, exploring trails, and walking along the beaches while listening to the waves crashing against the rocks. It's amazing how such a strong force of nature can be such a beauty! We surprisingly stumbled upon the Botanical Gardens; soon realizing we had come upon a secret treasure locked away in a magical garden. This place was absolutely amazing. From the wonderful array of flowers, rich in color set against a background of lush green landscape that lead to the coastal bluffs that seemed to reach to heaven itself. We spent many hours just sitting on a blanket over looking the water, watching the sea lions while in amazement of all the natural beauty that was surrounding us. The time we spent here was truly memorable and we will always cherish it. Now almost four years later we are still together and planning our lives together. What better way to spend our 4 year anniversary but once again in Mendocino celebrating our love with all our friends and family! This gift would be truly amazing and we would be forever in your debt. Thank you for giving us this opportunity."

"What a wonderful place with great memories! We love the McCallum House. Nick and I were married 4 years ago and spent a wonderful honeymoon exploring the area and the delicious dining at McCallum house and watching the fog roll in and just relaxing. This year we came back for a week in the main house with our 2 youngest girls (we have 6 girls in our blended family). We were in the attic and enjoyed the view, the chef's mashed potatoes, and more exploring including the botanical gardens. We never did get the llama trek because it was closed, but hope to do it next time. There is just so much to do (or not do and just relax :) Everyone was so nice to us and you even let me have cuttings of a few succulents and I have them in a pot by our front door. Such nice times. I am rambling but we just have such a great time at the McCallum house! "

"My partner and I are photographers. It's what we do, and we love our work. Believe it or not, we don't photograph weddings, which I know is terribly unusual in our line of work. What we do is create images for women to help them feel *beautiful* and *empowered*. To see themselves as amazing and gorgeous. At least 5 times a year, our work brings us to Mendocino, we have a loyal and supportive client base there who believe in us and our work. A day doesn't go by that we don't feel immense gratitude that our little local business in Sonoma has expanded to the beauty and warmth of the wonderful Mendocino community. I'm not sure any of our clients in Mendocino know that Tara (my business partner and my heart's other half) and I have been engaged for almost 4 years now. I know, that's a *long* engagement. A busy business, and the obvious politics aside, having a beautiful wedding and getting married is our dream. To declare our love and soul's commitment to one another in the perfect setting, on the perfect day, brought to life by the perfect group of people is something we've dreamed about for quite a long time now. Each time we are in Mendocino, watching our clients prepare for their sessions with hair and makeup, being wowed by their stunning wardrobes, capturing them in breathtaking locations on the coast, my mind often daydreams a little about the magic of someday arriving in Mendocino, not for work but for our *wedding* day. As we are often on the other side of the camera capturing the magic, I thought it may just be worthwhile putting my wish out into the world, that maybe, just maybe the magical dream of our wedding day could come true in the place that has welcomed us for so many years. So there you have it, a simply but honest wish. Thanks for listening, and don't tell Tara I wrote this - it's a surprise! (*wink*)"

Every time we have a free weekend we always find ourselves hoping in our 1996 Blue Chevy Astro Van for some good 'ol fashion road tripping. Our favorite part about Mendocino County is that there is always a new sight to see or even the same sights look different depending on the the time of year we visit. It would be our dream to have our wedding at one of our favorite places in beautiful Mendocino."

"My husband and I first went to Mendocino in 2004. Knowing that it was a dog friendly town, we thought it wise to bring our 3 month old puppy with us on our first trip. In hindsight, probably not the best idea! On our second day, we decided to go for a walk on the trails near the ocean. While I was trying to get our puppy to walk on the leash (instead of jump in the bushes!), my husband bent down to tie his shoe. Not really paying attention to him as I was trying to not lose the puppy, I didn't realize what was really going on. It was then I saw he took something out of his pocket. It was there on the cliffs overlooking the ocean that he took a ring out of his pocket and proposed. Eight years later, we come back every year for a few days to getaway, relax and unwind. We love the friendly people, relaxing atmosphere and beautiful outdoors. We look forward to returning each year. It is such a great place, with such amazing food. We love the small town feel, local shops and unbelievable restaurants. We look forward to visiting every year."

"Since Luke and I started dating eight years ago at the age of 15, we travelled to Mendocino and Fort Bragg as often as we possibly could. To this day we cherish every moment we spend together on the coast and hope someday we can get married and share that special moment with our closest family and friends. There truly is no place like the Mendocino Coast. Our most favorite part of the year is when the Whales travel through Mendocino and we stand and watch them from the Point Cabrillo Lighthouse. We have several memorable stories and moments but first and foremost, we always return to the coast to walk the beach, hand in hand, envisioning our wedding and our future life together. Thank you Mendocino!"

"Walking along the bluffs in Mendocino is delightful, with cove after cove of incredible beauty. Each ocean swell is unique in how it strikes the rocks, giving rise to hours of wave watching. The observant hiker will notice nooks and crannies along the coast where the waves appear to come out of an opening in the cliffs. Or water spewing forth from a small opening in the rocks. The broken nature of the cliffs which make the coast so picturesque also make for world class kayaking. All along the Mendocino coast are arches and caves, blow holes and pour overs. Around each bend are new worlds to explore, passages to kayak. You never know what is coming next as the alcoves aren't revealed all at once, but unfold gradually as you paddle along. A cave might open to a protected beach. Rounding a rock might lead to delightful tidepools full of life. The rock gardens are exciting and amusing places to play. You can time you arrival on a rock arriving with a wave and pouring over a mini waterfall to a waiting pool. Blow holes happen when the energy of a wave is funneled out through a small crack in the rocks. Paddling next to a blow hole one is treated with the spectacle of a sudden burst of water. Come to Mendocino for the best rock garden kayaking ever. Bring your boat, borrow a boat or rent at boat in Mendocino. You won't be sorry."

"I began coming to Mendocino back in the early eighties with friends who introduced me to abalone diving. I made it a goal to come back nearly every year as I grew to absolutely love visiting and diving in the area and still do. I find the sea life breathe taking and fascinating to spend time in the water with as it is truly another world. Through the years I would bring my wife and my kids to enjoy the area often staying at Van Damm state park or Casper Beach camp ground, diving for abalone, and spending the evenings enjoying good food and abalone with friends and family around a good campfire. We would always make a point to shop around in Mendocino since there were always great shops with things you can find nowhere else. I really wanted to believe my family was enjoying the Mendocino area as much as I. When my son and his lovely bride to be told me they chose Mendocino as their place to be married, I had my answer. It's a truly special place. We love visiting Mendocino and its beautiful coastline and will continue to come visit forever."

"My Love Affair with Mendocino. Mendocino is romantic in that same undefinable way that Paris is romantic. Mendocino has amazing food and takes great pride in their food. The architecture is interesting and quaint. But beyond that there is something about both Mendocino and Paris that lends it the aura of romance. Is it the beautifully kept gardens? The waves on the rocks, each individual and unique? The calm and quiet that comes from such rural place? The sea caves, rock gardens and arches that make for world class kayaking? Verdant forests full of mushrooms and waterfalls? The incredible woodworking craftsmanship on display at the galleries? All of the above?

I‚'ve been coming to Mendocino for most of my life. When I met my current wife, Elizabeth, I took her up to Mendocino and stayed at the Mac House. Over the course of that weekend we talked about our dreams and hopes. We talked about having an organic farm in Sonoma, of being married, and the type of lifestyle we wanted. All of that has come true. We have a mini farm in Sebastopol and visit Mendocino as often as we can. The proximity to Mendocino was one factor in deciding to move to Sebastopol.

I love the place and look forward to visiting it for the rest of my life."

I can't think of a more beautiful place to tell them all I love them and will always be their Mom..."
